City Hall Grill

Southwest University Park, El Paso, TX

This sophisticated yet simple space was created through a delicately balanced palette of reclaimed vs. new and raw vs. refined materials. The backbar features custom cut metal panels backlit and floating in front of a bare concrete block wall. To contrast with the organic patterns of the metal, the concrete blocks behind were laid in a distinctly geometric stack-bonded pattern. In other areas of the space the blocks were staggered in the vertical plane of the wall, creating a unique sculptural and rich feel. Exposed structure, white floating ceilings, hanging glass pendants and large round chandeliers reminiscent of the pre-electric era add to the raw yet refined nature of the space. The bar is located in an outfield building of Southwest University Park and can be opened toward the field on game days through the use of four large overhead garage doors.
